‘Best Friends’ till the end

I often feel sad about the fact that one of my closest friends migrated to the opposite end of the globe. Missing her makes me realise how easy it is for us to depend on human beings. To trust their love for us. To value their advice. To open our hearts to them when we need a friend.

And yet ironically, how difficult it is to have that same level of intimacy with God. God - Who will never let us down!

Everyday we have decisions to make. Small decisions, seemingly inconsequential. Big decisions, life-changing. It’s easy to feel lost, depressed, frustrated, scared. In the midst of the madness, it’s easy to wonder where God is.

The answer to that, is that He’s right there besides us. He NEVER leaves. He speaks & reaches out to us in different ways:

  • Directly - through prayer, scripture reading & inspirations, conscience.
  • Through People - our teachers, our priests & pastors, the early fathers.
  • Through Situations - more often than not, difficult situations.
  • Through Nature - a gentle breeze, a starlit night, the full moon, a pretty flower…

Today God is calling us to develop a meaningful & personal & intimate relationship with Him. To count on Him. To depend on Him. To trust in Him. To wait on Him. To talk to Him about every silly little thing that pops into our heads.

He’s calling us to become “best friends” with Him.

The up side? Gaining a friend who’ll never leave you. Who’ll never betray you. Who’ll always “be there” for you. Who’ll guide you perfectly through Infinite Knowledge. Who’ll understand your every feeling, your every mood, your every emotion. Who’ll always love you. No matter what.

The down side? There isn’t any. Being “best friends” with the Lord and Creator of the Universe wouldn’t have a down side, now would it?
