Reviews on great Christian Books
I've broken these into three categories:
(01) General Christian Books
"Life of Christ " [Fulton J. Sheen]
Archbishop Fulton Sheen's masterpiece. I absolutely loved this one. Took my time studying this book rather than reading it. It is a book not to be lent/borrowed; rather one should buy a copy for oneself and then use it as a textbook in studying the God/Man Jesus. Almost every line of every page is highlighted or underlined in my book. Be aware though that it's not light reading - so don't start it unless you've got the time/ inclination to finish it.
Critics, Christian and Catholic alike have always given full marks to this book and I find no reason to differ. If you love Jesus and want to understand Him more, get this ASAP.
"Power in Praise " [Merlin Carothers]
Three Million American Best Seller. A simple clear explanation of how and why the principles introduced in Prison to Praise work in everyday life.
YOU MUST READ THIS ONE.
All I will add to the above line is that after I read Power in Praise, I went (to OM) and bought every book that Merlin Carothers has ever written.
"Touch the World through Prayer " [Wesley L. Duewel]
A lovely simple book that will touch your heart & enable you by it's step-by-step guides & lists to literally touch the entire world through your prayer. It taught me a fundamental truth - that Prayer truly is powerful. Truly amazing & wonderful stuff here!
A word of caution, Pastor Duewel is non-Catholic, so one chapter on angels was in certain areas different from Catholic Doctrine (i.e: He emphasizes we should not pray to angels). Other than that though, the book gets Full Marks & More.
"Peter on the Shore- Vocation in Scripture and in Real Life" [Anthony Bannon LC]
When discerning my vocation, one of the ways that God spoke to me was through the blessed ministry of Fr. Anthony Bannon. He has a site online www.Vocation.com and is the author of this book among others. The book has very modern-day-relevant chapters like "Telling God's Call from my Imagination" & "I'm Still Fighting with Sin".
If you're thinking about discerning what God wants for you, I def. suggest you get a hold of Fr. Anthony's books and read seriously. If you cannot get a hold of the book, you can read it online here.
